a new furiend...and she could be a twin

hey Furiends! i got a an internet sister, we look like twins. and guess what? she is a Princess, a real live Princess. Just like our long time furiend, and Jesse's love, Princess Fizz and her sister the K.iT. (knight in training) over at Berntoak Bernese Mountain Dogs

Princess Leah is so barktatsic, and she has such fun adventures. i want to add her to the "MouseyTears Team" but Samantha says she lives too far away to be a team member on the ranch. maybe we can make her an Ambassador for us. i like the idea, we will discuss it at the next MouseyTears meeting. until then everyone needs to pop over to her Royal Castle and have a peek see.

sweetness like this can only be Royal.

have a gurrrreat week everyone!

cabin fever treatment= sweet potato treats

good morning everyone--- we have lots and lots of snow here at the ranch in colorado. Yesterday it snowed all day which meant that i couldn't go outside and play in the woods.... and then M said i came down with a case of Cabin Fever... oh no! so she decided that we needed to make some homemade treats to keep my attention off not being able to run through the snow.

they turned out fabulous! the were woorific; and so easy to make....maybe you can get your pack leader to make you some too.

1 Large Sweet Potato, washed & dried
  • Preheat oven to 250° F
  • Cut the potato into 1/3" slices, no smaller than 1/4".
  • Place them on the prepared baking sheet.
  • Bake for 3 hours, turning half way through.
  • Cool completely on a wire rack.
  • Storing - Although these treats are dried, you will want to keep them in the refrigerator for up to 3 weeks. You can freeze them for up to 4 months.

Tips & Techniques

Choosing a Sweet Potato - You want to find a potato that is as uniform in shape as possible. This will aid in the drying process as the pieces will be similar in shape and will cook through at the same time. Also, try to find one that has fewer blemishes or bruises. While you're picking one to make a sweet potato dog chew, go ahead and pick some for the family, too!

Cut Even Pieces - ensure your pieces are as even as possible.

Degree of Chewiness - Baking for 3 hours results in a soft, but chewy dog treat. If your dog prefers more of a crunch, then bake for an additional 20-30 minutes. When you take the sweet potatoes out of the oven, they may at first appear to be too soft. Let them cool completely on a wire rack before you decide whether or not to bake them longer. This is because they will continue to dry or harden while cooling.

Finished Color of Treat - Sweet potatoes can vary in flesh color when raw. So, when baked they can be lighter or darker than the chews in the above photo. The texture is what you need to be most concerned with. Bake longer or shorter for the texture that your dog prefers.

a note from M: whether your dog has a need to chew or not, they'll love this all natural sweet potato dog chew. in fact, it's such an easy dog treat recipe, i bet you'll be making several batches at a time for your dog and all of her all natural dog treat loving friends!

a visit from S

S has been living in CA with Jake while we are out here at the ranch, M says he needs to finish with some things before they come here next year. i can't wait, but in the meantime, S got to come visit over the New Year and we had lots of barktastic fun. first thing was to take him on one of our 'snow walkies" it was a beautiful, but chilly day, perfect!

S was enjoying the sunshine after our snow walkies when i decided he needed to get some genuine

PoochSmooches

surprise, surprise, made him laugh,

BOL,
woof woof woof......

it was such a nice weather while he was here that even Samantha got to go outside with S- i stayed on the porch with M so they could enjoy their together time.

GAME: can you find Samantha in these two photos..... no wonder she is such a good hunter...she "blends" bark, bark, bark!

but alas S had to go back to CA, Jake was missing him something fierce
please, S, come home
Cynthia is taking very good care of me, but i miss you!
M says we'll all be together soon; but in the meantime M, play with me and hippo...

gypsy's surprise....

Happy Solstice & Yule, Happy Holidays,
 Merry Christmas everyone!

just popping in to tell you about the surprise M made me. i knew she was up to something...hearing strange sounds from the garage and barn, making trips into town to the hardware store (a 3 hour event i might add due to us living so far from any towns) but i did get to go inside the hardware stores- yippee. she was very good at keeping what she bought hidden from me. i think she distracted me by grabbing a new kong critter or treat bag which kept my attention off her. with all that, here is what she made me- i love it! -it's barktastic! woof, woof, howl

M feels that having our feeding bowls just a little off the floor height is healthy for us, she tried several heights until we found just the right one for me. i was content....but not M, she had other plans.  :) U..U

thank you M!

so......

what does a Commissioner of Rodent Activity do all day in the wintertime while all those 'rodents' are tucked away in their little rodent lairs sleeping off the winter chill?

let me show you just what she does......all day long
(M snickers)

here she has enlisted the help of her Lieutenant
seriously M ?!
i am storing energy for the spring "rodent rush"

oh yea, Sam.I.Am, you look like you've been "storing something,"
and it's more than just energy.....
